Here is a spreadsheet I made before the hike outlining all of the towns I planned to stop in along the way so that friends and family could send us care packages or mail if they felt like it. A lot of these places we either did not end up stopping for and a lot of them were not places I would visit again. This spreadsheet is a raw representation of how a planning/aspiring PCT thru-hiker over analyzes and over thinks every small detail (at least in my case) all of which got reconsidered once out on the trail:

Here is the official resupply spreadsheet Ben and I made before the trail detailing how and where we would be resupplying. This is not a representation of what we ACTUALLY DID. I am currently working on a spreadsheet that will contrast all of the above and show what changes we made to our plans and why:

I have printed out the mail drop graph (which is LOVELY -- thank you for all of your hard work) and highlighted all of the drops I want to send treats to.
Re: not bringing any books- do you like e-readers? I'm bringing a kindle, which weighs six ounces, and a kobo mini weighs four. And the charge lasts two weeks!!
lauren ashley - <3 <3 <3
Carrot - I have never actually used an e-reader... for some reason I didn't even ever consider bringing one. Not sure why. I think the reason is because I am even more obsessed with having tons of music than having physical reading material (and also I plan on having audiobooks and podcasts...) on the trail. Also - I feel like I have too many electronics and gadgets as it is sincE I am bringing an iphone, DSLR, battery charger, AND an ipod (I need 80 gigs of music/podcasts). We'll see though, four ounces is tempting.... !!!
Have a safe trip, will be thinking about your awsome trip. Kelly W
Thanks Kelly! Awesome that you commented! I love the moral support.
Thyra - HI from RAINY Portland, OR. I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how to leave a comment on Ben's blog...which he doesn't seem to be posting anything on. Is that accurate? I want to make sure I'm not missing something there...anyway! I wanted to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY BENNY!!! I hope it's a great day on the PCT. Guess what? I have new renters arriving in your old space this weekend! We miss you guys! xoxo
Hi Thyra,
I've been reading your posts and enjoying your amazing photos... even the iphone one of the sunset which is still very cool because you captured the moment. The way the Earth looks where you are is so whitened and pure..I would imagine Tibet must look like this on top. I love the purple wildflower you found and Guitar Lake.. wow, total guitar shape! Did you hear strumming in the wind ;-) ? I love the photos of you and Ben standing on the summit of that mountain and how cool to find out it is the highest trail you were on. Did John Muir walk this trail first in the Sierra Nevada's? He loved it there and your trek is making me want to read him again.. ( but I promise not to send you any books by him, just yet... just cookies!!). I have a question... why patches of grass for Olenka? Is she like a clump of wild unkempt mountain vegetation in some way?;-)
I am not aware of your itinerary and would love to go with Olenka to one of your stopping points when you are closer to Oregon. I will be in touch more... Love, love, love what you and Ben are doing... you are walking closer to the stars and the moon and deeper with the sunlit stones.
Love,
Natalia
I meant to say I am NOW aware of your itinerary.
Also, wanted you to know I have 6 wild kittens in my backyard and they are deep into their kitten adventures among the rasberries and on top of the retaining wall. I have videos of them on my facebook wall!
Natalia - Thanks for reading!! I heard all about the kittens and am sad I am not there to meet each and every one of them! I thought of Olenka, and often do out here, when I see interesting or quirky flora/fauna phenomenon. The circular patches of grass are VERY strange and I can't get over them! I just feel like she would appreciate these small nature details. Even more so than anyone I know out here. I miss Olenka very much because she appreciates these things. Come out to Eagle Creek when we are there! In the gorge! Great to hear from you!!! XOXO
Just a note from far off Australia. Thank you for your wonderful blog. I have no concept of the energy required to update your blog at the end of such arduous days. But let me assure you it is well read and appreciated by us and many of our friends.
Can't wait for the next entry.
Regards
Mother of Starfox.
Thyra! I've really enjoyed your blog so far! Its so amazing what you and Ben and Angela have done! Congratulations!!!!! You must be finishing tomorrow and ooh whee, what an accomplishment! Hope to see you soon!!
Sincerely,
Amy xoxoxo
Amy! Glad you are reading along and enjoying the blog! Let's get together soon?
Hi,
I just wanted to say Thank You! for all of your blog entries. I've enjoyed following you all summer. I attempted to hike the PCT back in 1973, left Campo by myself on April 05 (way too early) and almost died in the snow south of K. Meadows. I wish that i could get out there next summer for one last try before it's too late....Have a great winter!
Hello there- thanks so much for your blog- I really loved following your adventure, and it have me the desire to have my own- so I'm hiking the PCT in 2014. I would love it you would let me pick your brain on a couple of things, mainly your resupply stops. I would love love love it if you would email me at jlyonker@gmail to give me some tips! Thanks!
