DAY 95: A HOT CLIMB OUT OF THE FEATHER RIVER

miles: 23

Rollin' by 6:00am. Hikin' through nice forests, avoiding mountain bikers, seein' rivers.

We said goodbye to Smiles and Dr. Slosh and were on our way first thing in the morning. First on the list? Hit the Middle Fork of the Feather River and get the climb out of the valley over with before the heat of the day. Although.... there were plenty of clouds, so we were hoping it would stay relatively cool all day.

This was a fairly uneventful day so I will fill it with photos (as usual).

The Feather River

"LOOK AT THAT BRIDGE!"
We don't get to see too many beautiful bridges. We're always thrilled to go over a bridge.

... and the climbing begins. This is the dreadful climb we had been hearing about that winds it's way up and out of the Feather River Canyon. I had been dreading this climb for weeks, but I plugged in, turned up the volume and literally POWERED up the hill and was at the top in no time at all. It was also fairly shaded so it wasn't too hot! Climbs are always secretly o.k. if they are not exposed (we've come to learn this)...

Lunch at the top after 17 miles!

Ben eating out of a ziplock bag so he doesn't get his pot dirty.

A typical lunch situation/set up

This shell of an insect we found... where did he go?

Just the exoskeleton left!
