DAY 52: HIGH SIERRA ENTRY

First thing out of Angela's mouth: "The Wolf Pack slept together last night, but Smiles and Dr. Slosh have to move on in order to make their Mammoth Lake deadline." This is sad news, as we love hiking with them. They will be going 14 days straight through the Sierras without leaving to resupply in order to get to Mammoth on time for a wedding and cabin rental. We will reunite with them after that...

We all hiked together for most of the day, anxiously awaiting the Sierra Wilderness... Spirits were high, everyone was excited to see how the landscape would change. This change is very much a welcome change. Goodbye, desert, goodbye.

Even the burn areas are gorgeous in the Sierras.

We hiked through some major burn areas (yes, still) but they were still gorgeous and cool and robust. The wildflowers! No poodledog bush! No scorching heat due to the elevation! Increasingly stunning views!

We took a long lunch at the Kern River since we were only going 15 miles total today. Our ending destination: Cow Creek.

I am assessing my grim food situation here. I will not have enough food to get me through to Kearsarge Pass....
