DAY 129: DIAMOND PEAK

miles: 21

The sun came out! It came out around 10:00am and we laid all of our damp things out in the sun and took a really long morning break, and damn did it feel good. We had a pretty moist, wet, cold night last night and were crossing our fingers for some sunshine today and we got it!

Drying out the down coats.

As Ben described it, "It's like we are having a hiker garage sale."

More message boards please! So fun!
We took a lunch break on a Forest Road. Ate some mac n cheese. Left some notes for our pals behind...

The trail was wide this afternoon, winding trail demolished by horses that seem to have made their way through recently after the heavy rains. The soil must have been super soft when the horses came through, causing permanent gouges in the trail. No fun to walk on.

Today was mentally tiring for me. I'm not sure what it was but I couldn't wait for the day to be over. The foot pain was high, so that definitely played a part in making my day miserable, but mostly I just wanted to sit down (again - like usual).

Hiked through lots of forests that looked like this.

Spindly little guys.

Horse trodden path eroded from the previous days rains.

We finally arrived at Crescent Lake and chose a camp site on the shore. It was as if we were camping on a beach, a beach void of humans. We had that lake all to ourselves.

Sunset.
Lakeside tenting.
No one.
Diamond Peak looming in the distance.
Primo.

Our first real glimpse of Diamond Peak.

The clouds parted long enough for us to see Diamond Peak!

One of our best camp sites yet.
